Day 8: Stories

About The Song

This song is a direct recollection. A conversation even. I think I realised somewhere along the line that one of the things I missed the most after this particular break-up was the story I had been telling myself. I'd really been selling this idea to myself. “We’ve been friends since high school, blah blah blah, it’s meant to be…” I can hear it now, that story I was peddling and it was terrible. A terrible sales pitch for a terrible idea that ended even more terribly.

Hot tip: if you have to sell it to yourself it’s probably a stupid idea.

Extra hot tip: if the story ends up terrible, write a new story. You’ve got this.

Stories

Time hasn’t quite, got you off my mind

I guess I’m not over you yet

We had such a good story once

It makes it so hard to forget

We both know that love just isn’t enough

Or we wouldn’t be where we are

Cos my love was without question My heart was on the line

I gave it everything I had and couldn’t make it right

And the mess when you left And the pain in my chest

Words can’t begin to describe

I really felt it breaking this time

Words that you said, really messed with my head

But know it’s not all your fault

I know it’s hard when you don’t know who you are

It’s harder to know what you want

And you would be right beside me

If love could be all that we need

Cos my love was without question My heart was on the line

I gave it everything I had and couldn’t make it right

And the mess when you left And the pain in my chest

Words can’t begin to describe

I really felt it breaking this time

Time hasn’t quite got you off my mind

And you’re still free leasing my head

We had such a good story once

But there’ll be a new story yet.
