Day 5: Guys Like You

I found out through a family member that a mutual friend was experiencing domestic violence. As someone who has been around that, and part of that cycle as a child, I was witness to the cycle and stuff. Argh. This is actually tough to talk about.

I decided NOT to approach the topic with the woman in question. I knew from experience that when people put their two cents in before it’s asked for, sometimes people shut down and shut you out of their life. Effectively burning the very bridges they will need when they are ready to leave.

I took another approach. I wrote down my own story. I wrote about the experiences I had. I know that I’ve dodged a few bullets in my time - and it’s largely because I knew what comes next. I knew what red flags were. I got out early. Girls like me don’t stay with guys like that. That is literally the only difference. Leave. Get out. Do what you have to but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; if you’re not valued, if you’re not safe, if it’s not healthy - pack your bags and leave. You will only have healthy relationships if you don’t settle for less than healthy relationships.
